Neighbouring the Royal National City Park and inspired by the previously successful development of Hammarby Sjöstad, Norra Djurgårdsstaden or Royal Seaport in English, is found only 20 minutes from Stockholm city centre. It’s currently one of Sweden’s greatest urban development areas, set to be completed around 2030. With the goals of adapting to future climate change and safeguarding biodiversity and eco-friendly values, the district is built to be resource-efficient and have a minimal environmental impact.
Imagine a district where 100% of residents live within 200 meters of a public park, and 20% of the public open spaces include venues and areas that provide social value. There is a parking space for 2,2 bicycles per household. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
On our Sustainable Royal Norra Djurgårdsstaden Private Driving Tour, we walk through selected parts of the city district and explore; how a dense, green, and interconnected city facilitating walking, biking, and public transport opportunities reduce climate impact and increase well-being amongst its residents. We’ll also cover how circular systems, for example, how the same green space can offer improvements in public health, provide habitats for insects, diminish noise, and decrease stormwater, all at the same time.
