The story about the tour
Gaze down the canal of Nyhavn, out into the bustling waters of Copenhagen’s harbour. Appearing to rise out of the water in the distance, you spot a newly developed residential complex. Poking up behind it are crooked houses full of character. We hop across the harbour over the “Kissing Bridge” to have a closer look (mind the bikes zooming by, this is Copenhagen!). We’ve now arrived in a new inner-city district, Christianshavn. So let our exploration of Cultural Christianshavn begin!
Christianshavn has a fascinating history and is a place of visual arts, alternative lifestyle (can you guess in which area?) and harbourside hangouts. Have we hooked you yet? How about an old prison and maritime history? This district is a mix of historical and modern, creative and revolutionary, together making for a vibrantly cultural area of Copenhagen.
We turn the corner and… Wait, have we popped over to Amsterdam?! No, we’re still in Copenhagen, walking along the lovely canals of Christianshavn. Hear the water rippling against the houseboats that line the narrow waterways. Walking down quiet streets and over bridges, don’t forget to look up and appreciate the beautiful architecture around you. Soon enough, you’ll be looking up at the Church of Our Saviour, with its famous spiral tower, and be met with a display of colour at the gates to the Freetown of Christiania.
We’ll end our Cultural Christianshavn Private Walking Tour here, at the gates, with the story of Christiania. After being enlightened by the tale of Christiania, you’re free to go inside to explore on your own. Cultural, creative and crafty, this is Christianshavn!

Please be at the departure point, Next to the Memorial Anchor (Mindeankeret), Nyhavn 1F, in front of the canal boat tours – located in the City Centre, 10 minutes early to check in for your tour.

If you have trouble locating the guide or the meeting point, please give us a call a few minutes before the start of the tour. When you call before the tour begins, we have a greater chance of helping you find your way.

This tour ends outside the entrance to Christiania – it does not go inside (only Christiania’s own guides are allowed to guide inside). Guests are welcome to continue into Christiania after the tour on their own (it is approx. a 15 min walk back to Nyhavn).
