Oslo’s modern city centre was designed to be discovered on foot. Join us for an Oslo City Private Walking Tour and see for yourself! We’ll check out the best of the city centre, digging into Norwegian culture along the way.
The story about the tour
Imagine a city proudly founded by the mighty Vikings, who ate nothing but fish (that’s not entirely true, is it!), went on raids and lived just like everyone else (in the north). Flash forward to the 1600s. Enter King Christian IV, ruler of Denmark and Norway, rebuilder of fortresses, and founder of cities. Add a fire raging through the city and the King’s decision not to rebuild but instead move it. Put it all together, and what do you have?… Oslo! Together, we’re off to explore the Oslo city of today on our Oslo City Private Walking Tour.
Starting our walk from the Nobel Peace Center, the lovely Aker Brygge offers a stunning view of Oslo Harbour and Fjord. We’ll skip from one place to the next, telling you all there is to know about the Oslo City Hall and the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony on the way to the city’s core. Here we’ll meet The National Theatre, University Square, Karl Johans gate (the main shopping street), and the Norwegian Parliament. What else comes to mind when you think of Oslo?
For starters, no visit to Oslo is complete without a visit to Akershus Fortress and… what?! An iceberg?! It may be cold here, but that’s no iceberg… it’s the Oslo Opera House. With its exciting modern architecture, the Opera House and its neighbouring buildings form a new, contemporary part of town. Not to mention contemporary in the sense that urban farming has taken off in Oslo, and you can find it just behind the Opera. With all that being said, the capital of Norway is thriving – you can feel the buzz of exhilaration in the air. Don’t believe us? Go to the top of the Opera House after the tour and see for yourself!

Happy Nobel Day! 💡 As Nobel Week was cancelled in 2020, Nobel lectures, prizes and banquets were replaced with Nobel Week Lights - light installations inspired by Nobel Prize-awarded findings and laureates. As the festivities are now back, we sure hope that we are so lucky that the artwork brightening up the city during the darkest month of the year; is a December tradition that has come to stay. 💫
🇸🇪

It’s a contested issue amongst numerous Baltic connected countries as to who invented the Ice-skate. Was it the Finns or the Dutch? All of this is irrelevant because the best city to ice-skate in is Stockholm. If you want to show off your Quadruple Axel in front of the masses, the ice-rink in Kungsträdgården is the perfect location. ✨⛸️✨

Don`t let its controversy cloud your curiosity as Christianshavns characteristic slanting roofs and canals, as well as the tremendous Church of Our Saviour, are well worth seeing. Not to forget the Færgecafé or Café Parterre who are both worth visiting.
