Experience Oslo’s Viking past and festive charm on our Oslo’s Christmas Spirit Private Walking Tour. Explore landmarks, history and twinkling lights while uncovering Norwegian holiday traditions like “Lille Julaften” and Gløgg!
The story about the tour
Imagine a city proudly founded by mighty Vikings, who braved the cold, feasting on fish (well, not just fish!) and living much like everyone else in the north. Fast forward to the 1600s, and King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway makes his mark on Oslo’s history by moving the city after a devastating fire. Today, that rich past is woven into the vibrant tapestry of modern Oslo. And what better way to explore it than during the holiday season, when the city transforms into a wonderland of sparkling lights and festive cheer?
On our Oslo’s Christmas Spirit Walking Tour, we’ll begin at the Nobel Peace Center, where the lovely Aker Brygge offers stunning views of Oslo Harbour and Fjord, now shimmering under twinkling holiday lights. As we stroll through the heart of the city, you’ll pass landmarks like Oslo City Hall, the National Theatre, and the famous Karl Johans gate, each dressed in festive decorations. The energy in Oslo is genuinely vibrant, especially when you arrive at Oslo University and see its towering Christmas tree.
Christmas in Oslo is about more than just architecture—it’s about tradition and warmth. We’ll dive into the Norwegian holiday spirit, learning about local customs like “Lille Julaften” and “Julebord.” The smell of spiced Gløgg (mulled wine) fills the air as we explore one of the city’s Christmas markets, where cosy stalls sell handmade crafts and treats. The Royal Palace, surrounded by snow (snow is not guaranteed), offers the perfect finale as we share stories of how the Royals celebrate the season.
So bundle up, feel the Christmas magic, and join us for a walking tour celebrating Oslo’s history and infectious holiday spirit!

Happy Nobel Day! 💡 As Nobel Week was cancelled in 2020, Nobel lectures, prizes and banquets were replaced with Nobel Week Lights - light installations inspired by Nobel Prize-awarded findings and laureates. As the festivities are now back, we sure hope that we are so lucky that the artwork brightening up the city during the darkest month of the year; is a December tradition that has come to stay. 💫
🇸🇪

It’s a contested issue amongst numerous Baltic connected countries as to who invented the Ice-skate. Was it the Finns or the Dutch? All of this is irrelevant because the best city to ice-skate in is Stockholm. If you want to show off your Quadruple Axel in front of the masses, the ice-rink in Kungsträdgården is the perfect location. ✨⛸️✨

Don`t let its controversy cloud your curiosity as Christianshavns characteristic slanting roofs and canals, as well as the tremendous Church of Our Saviour, are well worth seeing. Not to forget the Færgecafé or Café Parterre who are both worth visiting.
