Oslo’s Christmas Spirit - Private Walking Tour

Skaters gliding in the ice rink, decorations glimmering in storefronts, the mouthwatering smell of roasted almonds in the air… Come see how the Norwegians make Christmas “hyggelig” on our Oslo’s Christmas Private Walking Tour.

The story about the tour

Imagine lamps glittering over snow-covered pavements, the spiced smell of hot drinks drifting in the air from nearby market stalls, and stores decorated with cheerful holiday decorations and candles on many windows and tables. Welcome to Oslo during the holiday season. At this time of year, everything is made to forget the long, dark, wintry days and to live the Christmas season with an authentic, infectious feeling of joy! It’s the epitome of the word “cosy”.

During our Oslo’s Christmas Spirit Private Walking Tour, join your very own local guide on a quest to soak in the Norwegian Christmas and holiday spirit. Learn about what the traditional Norwegian Christmas dinner includes and why the country is divided on the answer. Discover the concepts of “Lille Julaften,” “romjulen”, and “Julebord,” the latter being popular across the whole of Scandinavia during the holidays. Stroll through the cosy inner-city streets filled with beautiful decorations that you will want to take plenty of photos of (make sure you keep your phone in a warm pocket, it’s really cold this time of year, and batteries run out quickly!), topping it off with some local flavour. To warm ourselves (from the inside out), we’ll taste some of Norway’s typical wintertime drink called Gløgg (mulled wine)

After visiting the quaint market stalls at Oslo’s finest Christmas market, with its famous outdoor ice skating rink, we’ll journey up to the Royal Palace, concluding with stories of how the Royals celebrate the holidays. Take a seat in your sledge, fasten the seat belts, and join us for a real “Julestemning” experience that will leave you with plenty of Oslo’s Christmas Spirit to go around!

Happy Nobel Day! 💡 As Nobel Week was cancelled in 2020, Nobel lectures, prizes and banquets were replaced with Nobel Week Lights - light installations inspired by Nobel Prize-awarded findings and laureates. As the festivities are now back, we sure hope that we are so lucky that the artwork brightening up the city during the darkest month of the year; is a December tradition that has come to stay. 💫

🇸🇪

It’s a contested issue amongst numerous Baltic connected countries as to who invented the Ice-skate. Was it the Finns or the Dutch? All of this is irrelevant because the best city to ice-skate in is Stockholm. If you want to show off your Quadruple Axel in front of the masses, the ice-rink in Kungsträdgården is the perfect location. ✨⛸️✨

Don't let its controversy cloud your curiosity as Christianshavns characteristic slanting roofs and canals, as well as the tremendous Church of Our Saviour, are well worth seeing. Not to forget the Færgecafé or Café Parterre who are both worth visiting.
