Although Copenhagen is most famous for its biking culture, approx. 49% of the population use their bike to get to school or work; there is so much more to sustainability in the Danish capital. And we are just scratching the surface!
Having a closer look at the centre of Copenhagen, here we find Amagerbakke, an artificial ski slope and incineration plant, which with its two ovens, burns 25-35 tonnes of waste per hour which is then used to keep the locals nice and warm. There’s also Islands Brygge and the Harbour Pools, showing just how green Copenhagen is by allowing its citizens to take a dip right in the city centre. The quality of water in the Copenhagen harbour, you ask? It’s as clean as the ocean.
From infrastructure to food, thanks to New Nordic Cuisine, the concept of eating locally and organically is largely popular in Copenhagen.
