Are you coming to Stockholm during Christmas? We know what’s happening in the city during Christmas. Tag a long!

Inaugurating of the Stockholm Christmas by the city on November 19th. During Christmas-times the city is lighten up by thousands of lights (more precisely 700 000 lamps) on 35 places in the city. On the 19th of November it’s time for the inauguration of “Stockholm Christmas”, between 14.40 and 15.50 at Nybroplan. A Christmas choir will sing and the city will offer mulled wine and gingerbread. Perhaps the first real Christmassy event of the season. Of course the lights will stay from the 19th and forwards, so no worries if you can’t make it to the inauguration.

Christmas Spirit – join our walking tour of Gamla stan! We can’t help it, we need to hint about our own Christmas tour in Stockholm – Christmas Spirit. It’s a 75 minute long walking tour that takes place in Gamla stan (the Old Town) and includes all you need to know about how the Swedes celebrate Christmas, and mulled wine is of course included.

Design Christmas Market on Karlaplan. If you’re a fan of Christmas markets you won’t be disappointed in Stockholm. We have the classic one on Stortorget, Gamla stan, one on Sergels Torg by city center and of course the one at Skansen, the world’s first Open-Air Museum. A newcomer to count with is the one arranged by Designmarknad Stockholm, a organizer of markets where designers can sell their stuff directly to the public. When they together with one of Stockholm’s most popular markets – Hornstulls Market – put together a Christmas market we have high hopes! Go here if you want to shop designer products. The market will take place every advent (26-27 November, 3-4 and 10-11 December) at Garnisonen, Karlaplan (Karlavägen 100).

Christmas celebration at Rosendals’ Garden. Rosendals’ Garden is one of the most popular sights in Stockholm during summer, and it’s not for nothing: here you can put together your own bouquets, have a fika under the apple trees and buy locally produced plants and flowers. Now the garden invites you to come celebrate Christmas with them and we say: why not! For sale you’ll find seasonal food, flowers and pastries. The premiere is on 24th of November, but the 18th of December is the evening we find most interesting: a light show will be arranged and they will have a campfire when the sun sets. More info about Rosendals’ Garden can be found on their website.

Julbord (Christmas buffet) all over the city. It’s quite usual that many restaurants change their menu during Christmas and go fully on julbord. So, how do you pick and choose? We wouldn’t know really, but we can give you some hints on tables we find attractive: Skansen’s, because of it’s gorgeous environment and famous chef who’s behind it, Christmas lunch at Den Gyldene Freden where you will be served the food in four rounds and last but not least the classic Mårten Trotzig, because they know what they are doing and they have been doing it for years and years.
