As a coastline capital, Oslo and maritime go hand in hand. From polar adventurers to Pacific Ocean explorers, we’ll discover Oslo city and the Kontiki and Fram Museum on our Maritime Oslo Private Walking Tour. Let our Oslo expedition begin!
The story about the tour
Let us take you on a journey. A journey through the ages and across seas, with stories of discovery, peril, intrigue and bravery. Tales of polar and Pacific Ocean explorers who discovered, adventured, and conquered. On our journey, we’ll explore Maritime Oslo with a private walking tour through the Norwegian capital, followed by visits to the Kontiki and Fram Museum.
To begin our adventure, close your eyes and think back to the time before iPhones, laptops, and cars. When maps were invented, but all discoveries and scientific advancements still had to be done with ships led by adventurous explorers willing to risk their lives for the cause of the expedition. Open your eyes. Where are we? You guessed it; we’re at the Fram Museum, where we’ll hear about the explorers who became world-famous celebrities because of their expeditions to the polar regions of the world.
Close your eyes again and fast forward in time to the middle of the 1900s, from polar vessels to a balsawood raft; open your eyes and find yourself at the Kontiki Museum. We’ll make our way through the exhibitions, astounded by the story of Thor Heyerdahl. By crossing the Pacific Ocean, he fulfilled his dreams of exploring the world and living in science.
To do our own sailing, we’ll take the public ferry from the Fram Museum back to where we began. You’ll probably recognise where our ferry will make land from our walking expedition earlier today that led us to the main sights of the city centre, including the Oslo City Hall, Akershus Fortress and the Royal Palace. Arriving back at the pier, whether you’re a Viking warrior or polar explorer, we hope you enjoyed our expedition, Maritime Oslo Private Walking Tour, as much as we have.
