As a coastline capital, Oslo and maritime go hand in hand. From Vikings to polar explorers, we’ll raid, pillage, and discover the city and the Viking Ship and Fram Museums on our Maritime Oslo Private Walking Tour.
The story about the tour
Let us take you on a journey. A journey through the ages and across seas, with stories of discovery, peril, intrigue and bravery. Stories of Viking warriors and polar explorers who discovered, adventured, and conquered. On our journey, we’ll explore Maritime Oslo, with a private walking tour through the Norwegian capital, followed by the Viking Ship Museum and the Fram Museum.
To begin our adventure, close your eyes and think back to the time before iPhones, laptops, and cars, to a time when we navigated the seas by the stars. Open your eyes and find yourself in a time approximately 1,000 years ago. Enter the Viking Age (or at least the Viking Ship Museum)! We’ll pillage and plunder our way through the exhibitions, marvelling at the three Viking ships that are on display.
Close your eyes again and move forward in time to when maps had been invented, and ships were not only built of wood. Back then, all discoveries and scientific advancements had to be done with ships lead by adventurous explorers willing to risk their lives for the cause of the expedition. Open your eyes. Where are we? You guessed it, we’re at the Fram Museum, where we’ll hear about the explorers who became world-famous celebrities because of their expeditions to the polar regions of the world.
To do some sailing of our own, we’ll take the public ferry from the Fram Museum back to where we began. You’ll probably recognise where our ferry will make land from our walking expedition earlier today that led us to the main sights of the city centre, including the Oslo City Hall, Akershus Fortress and the Royal Palace. Arriving back to the pier, whether you’re a Viking warrior or polar explorer, we hope you enjoyed our expedition of Maritime Oslo as much as we have.
Please note: The ferry to/from Bygdøy operates Mar-Oct. When not operating, the journey will be substituted by bus.
