Things to do on a rainy day in Oslo

Winter in Oslo doesn’t always mean sunshine, crispy air and beautiful snow on the ground. There might as well be rain and chilly winds. Here are our tips on things to do on a rainy day in Oslo. 

The Museum of Contemporary Art (Museet for Samtidskunst) is located on Bankplassen 4 (and is the building in the picture above). Here you will find a contemporary art collection that consists of approx. 5000 Norwegian and foreign works from 1945 and forward. The museum opened in 1990 and is located in an old bank facility. Mathallen, the food hall in Oslo, is the perfect spot for lunch on a rainy day; here, you will find all types of dishes, and it’s all under one roof, situated in a big venue in Grünerløkka. Read more about the food hall here.

The Viking Ship Museum (Vikingskipshuset) is one of the coolest museums in the world, according to us. Located on the island of Bygdøy, it has three of the most well-preserved Viking ships in the world. On the museum’s website, you’ll find opening hours and entrance prices.
