The story about the tour
Whether design is a passion or a hobby, you have probably heard of the Scandinavian design style. Most likely, you also know what it looks like; white walls, wooden floors, and modern furniture… The Scandinavian design movement defined by simplicity, minimalism and functionality has impacted nearly every design aspect since the mid-1950s.
Regardless of your interests, whether furniture, textiles, decorations or crafts, your guide will show you both recognisable labels and local boutiques. Dive into the Scandinavian design style and let us share the stories behind the people and objects. Did you know that the concept behind Granit, a furnishing shop focusing on functional and creative storage options, was created around a kitchen table? Or that it’s estimated that one IKEA BILLY bookcase is sold somewhere in the world every five seconds?
There’s also Svensk Tenn, a timeless mecca for furniture and textiles, founded by Estrid Ericson. Design House Stockholm considers itself a publisher of design rather than a conventional producer, working in the same way with designers that publishing houses work with authors. Carl Malmsten, where tradition and modern furniture are mixed, with Swedish folk tradition as the starting point.
