Get to know the boroughs of Oslo: Bygdøy

August 9, 2016 • 1 min read

The borough you’ll want to spend the most time in during your summer holiday is Bygdøy. Bygdøy is mainly a residential area but it also houses quite a few museums, has fantastic trails for cycling and walking and it even has a beach.

The museums we recommend you visit there are for one the Kon-Tiki Museum which displays everything about Thor Heyerdahl’s expeditions, who crossed the Pacific Ocean with the Kon-Tiki raft in 1947. The Fram Museum which of course about the Fram ship, which is the strongest wooden ship ever built and and still holds the records for sailing the furthest North and the furthest south. Another museum that’s an absolute must see is the viking ship museum, where you can see the oldest and best preserved viking ships in the world, we’ve already written a whole blog about that one which you can read here.

The Huk & Paradisbukta beach is the place to go to, if you just like to enjoy the sun. There’s even a beach volleyball court available and during summer a snack bar opens.
