Visiting Oslo in July – What to do?

July 4, 2017 • 2 min read

Are you travelling to Oslo in July? Lucky you! We can finally expect some summer heat, and it’s that time of the year when you can go swimming and do other fun summer-related stuff. Here are three things we recommend doing in Oslo in July.

Celebrate summer at the out-door festival Sommerøya
For those who love electronic music, Sommerøya will be a dream come true. Located in a unique location, surrounded by Arctic pyramids, each one 12 meters high into the sky. The area, that’s called Salt Arena, is located within walking distance from the central station in Oslo. Sommerøya is an annual festival with both contemporary art and underground electronic music. Spot what artists are coming to the festival on the website. Tickets can be bought here.

Go for an excursion in the Oslo Fjord
What better time of year than now to jump on a boat and explore the Oslo Fjord? Did you know that there are ferries that go between different islands close to Oslo city? From Aker Brygge, you can go to more than six islands in the fjord. All you need is a public transportation ticket and a little bit of picnic stuff, and you are good to go. If you ask us, Gressholmen in the photo above looks pretty darn amazing. Other popular islands to visit are Hovedøya, Lindøya and Nakholmen. When you have decided what islands you want to explore, you can see the timetables here.

Become a child at TusenFryd Amusement Park
… or if you just have children, let them try this! TusenFryd Amusement Park is located approx. 30 minutes from Oslo City Center by public transport, but once you arrive, you’ll find over 30 attractions, rollercoasters, carousels and much more. In the summertime, this thrilling place gets even better – it opens a waterpark called BadeFryd. Here you’ll find a swimming river, a slide and a swimming pool. Perfect if the temperature is rising very high! Prices and directions can be found on TusenFryd’s website.
